“NCIS” might be 12 seasons in, but that doesn’t mean the CBS drama is running out of stories to tell any time soon. “There’s some stuff coming up in January that’s going to be pretty surprising,” star Sean Murray teases. “I wish I could [say more]!”
While the actor remains frustratingly vague on the characters or topic the storyline in question will involve — “You’ll know it when you see it!” — he is able to tell Zap2it a little more about what to expect in the new year.
“We get to meet one of Gibbs’ mystery ex-wives soon,” he says. Rebecca, the referred-to-but-never-seen second ex-wife, will be played by guest star Jeri Ryan. “That’s not necessarily what I’m talking about as far as the surprises and the twists, but there’s some pretty surprising stuff that comes up and I’ll definitely be looking to see the reaction to that one.”
As far as McGee’s arc in the second half of the season, Murray says there will be romance in the air.
“We may see Delilah again this season, McGee’s love interest. Last we left they had a long distance relationship and she was in Dubai,” he explains. “We haven’t seen her this year but I think we’re going to see her, which is — for me and for the for the character — a good thing. I think people like to see McGee and Delilah together too and it’s fun to do. I have a great time with Margo Harshman, who plays Delilah.”
Plus, despite being more than a decade into playing the character, there’s always more information to learn about McGee — like, for example, his many out-of-the-box hobbies. “One of the fun things about McGee is you always learn something new about him that’s sort of strange that could be out of character for him,” Murray says. “He comes across as a straitlaced guy at first.”
“NCIS” returns Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
