“New Girl” brought its fifth season to a close with two episodes that encompassed Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece’s (Hannah Simone) lovely wedding. But the bigger news is that it appears the show is ready to give the Nick-Jess relationship another try.

The relationship between Nick (Jake Johnson) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) was brewing long before anything ever happened on the show. The third episode of the entire series, “Wedding,” made the chemistry between Johnson and Deschanel abundantly clear and fans have been on board that ship ever since.

They finally acknowledged their feelings for each other in the latter half of Season 2, which some fans thought was too soon, because where does the show go from there if the will-they-or-won’t-they couple is resolved so early on?

But rather cleverly, the writers quickly established that Nick and Jess weren’t right for each other — at least, not yet. Nick particularly had a lot of growing up to do and now, three seasons later, maybe that time has finally come.

It’s really kind of perfect, because Nick and Jess have known the feelings were there for a long time, but they weathered a break up, being friends, seeing other people and now they seem to be in a good space to give things another try, especially because Jess appears to have finally gotten through to Nick that he’s not the loser he thinks he is. He’s actually a great guy who just needs to get his crap together.

The Season 5 finale ended with Nick considering going to New Orleans with Reagan (Megan Fox) for three months and we’ll have to wait for the fall premiere to know if he actually follows through with it. But whether he does or not, it seems that the Nick-Jess train is going to be hurtling down the tracks in Season 6. Are you excited to be on back on board?
