ABC has been under fire in recent years for not having more diverse casts of “The Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” — and, most notably, never having an African-American man or woman as the lead.
Paul Lee, president of ABC, tells a small group of reporters at the 2016 TCA winter press tour that that may be about to change.
“We’re doing a whole lot of tweaks. We have the farm team, right, which allows us to pick the next one, but I’d be very surprised if the Bachelorette in the summer isn’t diverse. Maybe I shouldn’t have said that, but I think that’s likely to happen,” says Lee. “But the tweaks that Mike Fleiss has put in place will get us where we want to go.”
Does that mean that one of the women of color — Amber, Jami, Jubilee — who is currently vying for Ben Higgins’ heart on “The Bachelor” will be the next bachelorette? Stay tuned, “Bachelor” fans.
