Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj is ready to stretch her wings into the world of TV. The rapper will executive produce and appear in a comedy based on her life, which has been ordered to series by ABC Family.

The news comes from Deadline, who reports the pilot will be filmed in Queens, N.Y. — Minaj’s hometown — in the winter. It will be set in the 1990s, following Minaj as she grows up.

“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” Minaj says in a statement. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”

“Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world,” ABC Family EVP of Programming and Development Karey Burke adds.
