Henry looks for Isaac to correct the new story in the Once Upon a Time Season 4 finale

“Once Upon a Time” Season 4 ended with a new mission for the Storybrooke heroes and their savior (Jennifer Morrison) absorbing the powers of the Dark One.
Though Season 5 won’t premiere on ABC until the fall of 2015, Zap2it is keeping tabs on everything you need to know before the show returns — starting with inside scoop from creators Adam Horowitz and Eddie Kitsis.
  • Emma may be dark for a while: When asked to describe Season 5 in one word, Kitsis replies to Zap2it, “Swan.” While vague, the one word suggests that bringing Emma back to the light will be the central struggle for the heroes.
  • The quest for Merlin: The key to banishing the darkness from Emma will be finding Merlin. There’s no word on who will play the legendary sorcerer (or whether Arthur and his knights will also be involved) but finding Merlin will be the main priority in the fall.
  • The theme for 5a has been approached, but not confirmed: The writers of “Once Upon a Time” are on hiatus, but Horowitz says the theme for Season 5 has already been talked about.

“We start with a theme we want to explore and go from there,” he says. “We’ve done our mini-camp. We actually have the next month so we like to sit for the next month and ask ‘Does it still hold true?'”

  • Rumpelstiltskin is still alive: The darkness has been removed, and while it isn’t certain that Rumple (Robert Carlyle) will pull through the process hope still remains that he’ll be able to survive.
