She may be Iron Man’s main squeeze but as Pepper Potts “The Avengers” Gwyneth Paltrow is not actually a superhero herself. Not that it stopped her from taking on the accoutrement of a caped crusader on the Academy Awards red carpet Sunday (Feb. 26) night.
Paltrow, herself an Oscar winner for “Shakespeare in Love,” stood out from the plethora of other white gowns at his year’s Oscars in a long sheath dress topped with a full-length cape from designer Tom Ford. With that making enough of a statement she kept the rest to a minimum with soft make-up, a simple ponytail tied low on her neck and a couple of pieces of jewelry.
Well, OK, the Anna Hu Haute Joaillerie Hearts of Fire cuff bracelet on her right arm had over 2,300 diamonds, weighed in at 163 carats and was worth a million dollars on its own (the ring added another $160,000 to the price tag), but it looked understated.
By the time she took to the stage to present an award with “Iron Man” co-star Robert Downey Jr., Paltrow had shed the cape. A good move. Otherwise having the two of them together would have made her fashion risk cross over into costume.
