brian grazer brett ratner Oscars: Brian Grazer steps in to produce as Brett Ratner, Eddie Murphy walkIt’s been an action-packed 24 hours for the Oscars. In the latest development The Wrap reports that producer Brian Grazer has stepped up to produce the 84th annual Academy Awards telecast after Brett Ratner and his hand-picked host, Eddie Murphy, both opted out.

“Brian Grazer is a renowned filmmaker who over the past 25 years has
produced a diverse and extraordinary body of work,” said Academy president Tom Sherak in a statement. “He
will certainly bring his tremendous talent, creativity and relationships
to the Oscars.”

On Tuesday (No. 9), Ratner resigned from the producer’s gig after members of the Academy and GLAAD protested his use of a gay slur during a discussion at a screening of his film “Tower Heist” last week.

Then, on Wednesday Murphy — one of the stars of “Tower Heist” — quit in a show solidarity with Ratner.

“I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop,” said Murphy in a statement, “but I’m sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.”

A new host hasn’t yet been picked, but an announcement is expected soon. In a Zap2it poll, Neil Patrick Harris is leading as the favored replacement.
