The cast of "Pretty Little Liars" hit the stage at New York Comic Con to give the latest scoops on Season 6b, and now the show is revealing to the rest of the world its new opening credits and the first four minutes of its series-redefining, half-decade leap.
Friday (Oct. 9), Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell and Sasha Pieterse were among those who unveiled the new season footage to an approving NYCC crowd. Now, the same footage is online for all to see, featuring throwback voiceovers as we walk the halls of Rosewood High. We see Alison teaching Shakespeare, Emily somewhere tropical, and allusions to the "complicated" relationship between Aria and Ezra five years in the future.
Season 6b of the show is set to premiere Jan. 12 on ABC Family, "It's a totally different show," Pieterse promised fans at NYCC. "In the best way."
Despite a relatively controversial finale to Season 6A, fans have high hopes for the next batch of episodes. The show is certainly taking a big risk with the unusual move of aging everyone a half-decade, but the actresses seem eager to play closer to their actual ages.
“I think they were really ready to play their own ages,” creator I. Marlene King said at Comic Con when asked about the reason behind the time leap. “If you’ve noticed, they haven’t been sitting in their desks for the last few seasons, because it got to the point where it just didn’t look right anymore. So I think it was really a group consensus that it was time to really age up the show. I think it’s a little edgier and definitely more mature.”
