Up next: Season 1, episode 17, “The New Normal,” aired Feb. 14, 2011.

What we thought then …

Not a lot of developments on the “A” front here, but viewers are supposed to still be very suspicious of Jenna (Tammin Sursok), as she seemingly seethes with jealousy over Toby’s (Keegan Allen) friendship with Spencer (Troian Bellisario). It even seems like Jenna is buying sexy lingerie to try to seduce her step-brother into coming back to her.

The “A” tag is also kind of interesting. It shows a black-gloved “A” putting flowers on Mrs. Potter’s (Helen Slayton-Hughes) grave. Is it out of guilt? Because we kind of think Mona (Janel Parrish) killed Mrs. Potter to keep Mrs. Marin (Laura Leighton) out of jail. That totally jives with something Mona would do to protect Hanna.

What we know now …

Jenna is actually buying sexy lingerie for her new boyfriend, Garrett Reynolds (Yani Gellman), who is a police officer and about to come into play in a big way regarding the Liars and the night Alison (Sasha Pieterse) disappeared. We’ll meet him in two episodes.

Also, the motel where room 214 is located is the same hotel Spencer dropped Wren (Julian Morris) off at in Season 1, episode 4, “Can You Hear Me Now?”. Probably just a coincidence, because how many motels are there in Rosewood and also TV shows re-use locations all the time. But still … interesting.

Hindsight hilarity …

Both Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Spencer think Hanna (Ashley Benson) needs to be careful of “dark” Caleb (Tyler Blackburn), which is so hilarious. Out of all the sketchy people on this show, Caleb is the one who pings your “dark and creepy” radar? Get out of here with that nonsense.

Creepiest dude award goes to …

Byron Montgomery (Chad Lowe), again. He’s not creepy, per se, but he thinks Ezra (Ian Harding) is moving in on Ella (Holly Marie Combs), so the way he acts out is by insulting Fitz’s taste in books and calling him a “lightweight” when it comes to literary prowess and teaching.

It’s comical that that is apparently what book nerds resort to for insults, but it does succeed in getting Aria (Lucy Hale) all riled up.

Best ‘A’ message …

This might be the best “A” message of the entire series — Mona sends an actual exterminator to Hanna’s house to let Hanna know that she knows Caleb is sleeping in the basement.
