When “Reign” returns for the back half of Season 3, Mary (Adelaide Kane) is doing everything she can to make her way back to Scotland now that her husband Francis (Toby Regbo) is dead.
But without a man by her side, Mary finds herself in need “of a powerful suitor” to align with. Kane tells Zap2it that she’s “assuming” this is how Mary winds up with husband No. 2, Henry Stuart — who had a decidedly different relationship with Mary than her first husband did.
“I’m very curious to see who they cast for that and how they play out that whole storyline,” says Kane. “After they got married, it was a very interesting relationship — he was incredibly abusive and kind of went crazy. It was a very hard time for her. She got pregnant pregnant with twins and she lost them, then she got pregnant again and had her son. There’s a lot of hard stuff that happens now that she’s in Scotland. It gets very dramatic.”
But Scotland isn’t the only setting for drama. There’s plenty of intrigue happening in England as well.
“Gideon is going back to England, it’ll be interesting to see how he is with Elizabeth after this whole affair with Mary,” says the actress. “And finding out who [Elizabeth’s] poisoner is and their motivation behind that is a very important part of the English storyline coming up for the rest of the season.”
There’s also still that pesky problem of the serial killer lurking about. The description for “Succession” says that “Catherine (Megan Follows) becomes a new kind of victim for the castle’s serial killer,” and while Kane can’t reveal the killer’s identity, she does say her theory turned out to be right.
“I’m not allowed to tell you [who it is] … [but] I kind of always knew. I was pretty spot on with my theory. I was like, ‘Oh, it’s totally this person’ and sure enough, it was who I predicted it was,” says Kane with a laugh.
When pressed for a little tease, Kane says, “Who will it be? Will the killer be closer than you think? Or someone completely unexpected? Someone we’ve known this whole time? That’s some exciting stuff too.”
“Reign” returns Monday, April 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
