When Season 2 of “Rick and Morty” came to an end in 2015, not only was one bombshell dropped when Rick Sanchez got locked away in space prison, but a second one hit moments later when the show alluded to a 2017 premiere for its next season. Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland are busy men, for sure.
With Harmon’s fun new project — “Great Minds with Dan Harmon” — recently premiering to the HISTORY Channel and Roiland working on a new “secret” animated series for FOX, it sounds like the guys are dealing with a full slate.
Still, though … that’s a long wait for “Rick and Morty” fans. Who do they think they are, “Louie?”
Well, a video has surfaced from Florida’s Magic City Comic Con that finds Harmon joined by production partner Dino Stamatopoulos (a.k.a. Starburns from “Community”) in a panel for the animated series.
During the Q&A, Harmon releases an exciting nugget of news refuting the previous notion of a 2017 premiere. Instead, they are targeting Season 3’s premiere to somewhere towards the end of 2016 … and it’s coming with 14 episodes!
While it may not sound like a huge deal as the end of 2016 is very close to 2017, but given how previous seasons of the series have worked, that may equate to fans getting new delicious material half a year prior than expected. Plus, there will be four more episodes than Season 2.
It’s time to celebrate, folks. It’s time to “Get Schwifty!”
