Is “The View” down another co-host? According to a new report, Rosie Perez is set to leave the daytime ABC talk show after four months.
Variety reports that Perez, who is currently on a month-long leave from the morning talk show to appear in the play “Fish in the Dark” on Broadway, will not return to “The View” when the show’s Broadway run is over.
A source tells Variety that Perez “never got a hang of the show’s mixture of hard and soft news, and she had trouble reading from a TelePrompTer. There are also more changes in staffing “both behind and in front of the camera” in the works, Variety reports.
But an ABC rep tells Zap2it that Perez’s position on “The View” is “not changed.” “Rosie Perez is currently in rehearsal for her Broadway play for the month of January. Her status with the show has not changed,” the rep says.
It’s worth pointing out, however, that “her status with the show has not changed” is a very carefully worded statement that does not actually deny Variety’s claims.
Perez and Nicolle Wallace joined Whoopi Goldberg and returning panelist Rosie O’Donnell for the show’s 18th season after Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd were let go, but Variety reports that more changes are afoot. Producers are allegedly angling to bring in someone “younger” to the judging panel, and are currently testing guest hosts.
At the time of Shepherd and McCarthy’s dismissals, Ross Matthews and Jesse Palmer were both named as potential replacements.
