Though Alaska officially received the “Drag Race: All Stars 2” crown, it is the beautiful Katya Zamolodchikova that won our hearts. In addition to returning even more glam than she was in Season 7, Katya stayed humble and chill — even through the numerous times she should’ve won the lip-sync battle and been announced as the week’s winner. Katya never tried to game the system like some, always choosing to send home the weakest performer of the week rather than her biggest competition: Katya let her work on the runway speak for itself.
When the drama came Katya’s way, she ignored it, coining perhaps the best line of the entire season:
It made no real sense when Katya merely said “Party,” in response to Alaska’s self-pitying temper tantrum, but then, it slowly did. How do you respond to a friend clearly having a meltdown? Try to make them laugh!
“Party.” It’s this kind of quick-witted, hilarious response — combined with killer moves and gorgeous looks — that made her the show’s fan favorite. Screener got to speak with Katya after the finale episode aired, and asked how the upcoming reunion went, if she had any regrets from this past season, and her true feelings on that controversial queen Phi Phi O’Hara.
How’s it been, seeing the social media support #TeamKatya received this season?
Katya: Incredible. Its not “like” I won, it’s that I… actually won. There are several different races, and crowns, in “Drag Race,” and I got the crown I wanted. I’m the People’s Princess — which was foreshadowed in episode 3 — and I’m very grateful for that.
How did it feel returning to the workroom a year later for the finale?
Pretty low-stress, actually. Easy breezy… Which was why I felt the need to burn off half my face. Always gotta find a way to make my life more difficult.
Is there anything you would’ve done differently in the finale?
I would have been airlifted via helicopter to Björk’s house for a collaboration, but I’m pretty realistic about what reality is.
Do you have any regrets this season?
Literally not one.
Is there anything the cameras didn’t show that you wish they had?
The lurid sex scenes. But they are too gross for TV. [kidding!]
How did you feel about Phi Phi not returning for the reunion episode?
I think that was in her best interest. I am afraid her legacy for many people will not add up to much more than a masochistic PR agent’s wet dream, but she has lots of fans that will continue to support her. She would have unwittingly sucked the air out of the room, and she clearly needs to move on. It would have been a disservice to the show, and unproductive, and unhealthy for her to participate. For the record, I know she’s awesome and I like her a lot.
Did the reunion get heated? Or was it more of a friendly gathering? Spill some tea!
Well, I’m the nice one, and in the preview I scream, “You’re a pig from Hell!,” so that should give you an indication…
The “Drag Race: All Stars 2” reunion airs on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Logo.
