No one ever wants to be the first queen to be sent home, but someone has to sashay away the runway, even if “RuPaul’s Drag Race” is commemorating its hers-torical 100th episode.
On Monday night (March 7), Logo celebrated the long running competition series with a special 90-minute episode, showcasing all the fabulous new queens competing for the crown. Let’s not forget the special nod to its 100th contestant, Britney Spears impersonator, Derrick Barry.
Barry’s likeness to the “Piece of Me” singer is uncanny. She’s got the exact facial structure and iconic poses of the pop star down pat. If Barry can prove her sewing skills are on point, then she will be the one to beat in Season 8.
But audiences can’t sleep on Kim Chi, whose makeup is absolutely divine and “Con-Dragulations” was this week’s challenge winner. Dax Exclamation Point gets points for merely having the most fabulous name, and Acid Betty also appears to be an early frontrunner with her exotic looks and designs.
The main competition of the evening combined all of the show’s most legendary design challenges, such as “Drag on a Dime Thrift Store” from Season 1, “Pride Floats” from Season 4 and “Money Ball” from Season 3, just to name a few.
The all-star panel of judges this week included Nicole Richie, Carson Kressley, Ross Mathews and Michelle Visage. After deliberation, Naysha Lopez and Laila McQueen were chosen to lip-sync for their lives to Lady Gaga’s “Applause.”
In the end it was the beautiful Naysha Lopez, who couldn’t seem to clap on beat, who ended up being sent home.
“RuPaul’s Drag Race” airs Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Logo.
