“The Voice” Season 8 is Sawyer Fredericks’ game to lose. Week after week he gets nothing but praise from the coaches and fans, and it’s difficult to imagine anyone else standing on the stage as the confetti falls and Carson Daly shouts out a name.

On Monday (May 11) night, the 16-year-old Team Pharrell singer performed Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years,” and once again showed off his maturity as well as his intense connection to the music he sings. Each note was as strong as the next, and at the end of the song, the coaches sang their usual praises for the outstanding musician.

At this point in the competition, it seems likely that the young performer will take home the top prize. He gives consistently solid performances and has proven that his unique tone, look and take on songs is popular with his fans. As long as he continues do his thing and stay true to who he is as an artist, it’s only a matter of time before Team Pharrell gets its first win.

“The Voice” airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
