"It has to be perfect, it has to be right, it has to be exciting and it has to be violent, and it has to be quick," says "Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments" star Dominic Sherwood. In this Zap2it exclusive behind-the-scenes video, fans get an inside look at how that epic fight scene in the show's premiere episode was made.

And does it get actually violent? "Oh yeah," Sherwood says, who plays Jace Wayland. Not on purpose but "we've all been hit at least once," he admits. The action sequence in the episode entitled, "Pandemonium" took two days to shoot, and the cast admits to suffering through real punches and kicks to make it look as real as possible.

While the goal is to make it look easy, Matthew Daddario (Alec Lightwood) explains it's actually quite difficult do get right.

"We'll start training at some point in advance and do it a few times over and over again. Then we film it from different directions and everything, so it's actually a complex process for something that lasts on screen for about 15 seconds."

"It's hard. It's really hard," Emeraude Toubia (Isabelle Lightwood) says, "Because each shadowhunter must 'fight differently.'" But in the end, all the training and extra work is worth it.

"Ya know what? We killed it," Toubia continues proudly. "That scene looks amazing."
