As FOX’s long-running dance competition reality show gears up for its revamped season, titled “So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation,” in which they will be focusing on dancers ages 8 to 13, they are also hiring younger people to critique the competitors, announcing on Thursday (March 3) that 13-year-old “Dance Moms” star Maddie Ziegler will be one of its new judges.
Ziegler shot to stardom after being cast in Sia’s music video “Chandelier,” in which she performed a theatrical contemporary dance routine in a nude leotard and short platinum blonde wig. The video went viral and Ziegler went on to perform with Sia on “Saturday Night Live,” the 2015 Grammy Awards, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” and secured herself a starring role in two more of Sia’s music videos, including “Big Girls Cry.”
The dancer and actress will be taking on her new critical role alongside fellow judges Paula Abdul, Jason Derulo and Nigel Lythgoe. Ziegler will be watching the show’s new young contestants get paired up with all-star dancers as they compete in every style of dance from hip-hop to ballroom and compete for the title America’s Favorite Dancer.
“So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation” will premiere on Monday, May 30, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
