While the end of Season 5 left viewers thinking nothing would ever be the same again on “Suits,” the Season 6 finale (March 1) brought everything full circle… Well, almost.
Through a complicated web of favors and deals, Mike (Patrick J. Adams) is once again a lawyer. With Anita Gibbs (Leslie Hope) hot on his tail, we’d given up hope that would ever happen… Until a certain beloved, fierce lady blazes back to town to help out her former cohorts.
Oh, Jessica Pearson. Have we missed you!
It was the best surprise seeing Jessica waltz back into Mike’s hearing like a boss — in that slick black dress suit! — and save the day. Now that she lives in Chicago, her testimony admitting that she knew Mike was a fraud before he got caught will have her disbarred in New York City… But she can still practice law in the Windy City. Ummm, do we sense a “Suits” spinoff?
Mike would never have thrown his future wife, Harvey (Gabriel Macht), or Louis (Rick Hoffman) under the bus, so Jessica’s return couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. Now that Mike can legally practice law, not only will he be returning to Specter Litt so he can subsidize his work cases at the clinic, he’ll be moving into Harvey’s office. And Harvey, finally ready to take on the boss role, will move into Jessica’s spacious former work space. For the first time in a long time, “Suits” gives Mike and Harvey a happy ending at the of this season…
But sadly, the same can’t be said for Donna (Sarah Rafferty). With a patent impossible to get, she’s offered a buy-out for her venture with Ben (David Reale). While it’s an amazing offer, and everyone tells her to take it, as viewers already knew, she was never championing The Donna for the money.
Breaking down in tears in front of Harvey, Donna explains that she needs more. More what? Something more professionally? Personally? All Harvey can do is stand there speechless. He doesn’t know how to help her — and he’s too overwhelmed with Mike’s situation in that moment to offer any sort of advice.
However, now that Mike’s good, it’s time for Harvey to put Donna first. Darvey wishes aside, Donna is looking for her purpose in life, not just a husband. We hope Harvey comes back in Season 7 ready to help Donna kick her butt into gear and to find her place in the world. She can’t be his secretary forever — and deep down, like us all, Harvey knows she’s meant for something much greater.
Louis doesn’t fare so well in the finale either. He’s falling apart after finding out that Tara (Carly Pope) is leaving him. While we know Louis loves her madly, this break-up is for the best. The timing was off. Way off. Rushing to get married because she was already pregnant, with another man’s baby, they moved in together without even getting to know each other. As quickly as they got together, it’s not surprising that it also fell apart just as fast.
But to close on a positive note, Rachel’s (Meghan Markle) future looks bright: Not only will she soon be a lawyer in her own right, but as the future Mrs. Ross, she has a wedding to plan. Even with all the drama the season, she and Mike have held surprisingly strong. While we previously thought these two would be doomed, they’ve proved us all wrong. And we ship them! Fingers crossed for a huge wedding in the Season 7 premiere, with Donna as maid of honor, and Harvey as Mike’s best man.
While life isn’t coming up white dresses and roses for everyone, the Specter Litt band is back together… And we can’t wait to see what they play next.
