“Supergirl” is making big moves in Season 2, and we’re not just talking about the move from CBS to The CW.

The girl of steel will also be getting a new boss when the series returns in the fall, and that character will be played by Ian Gomez. The “Cougar Town” alum will is taking on the role of CatCo Magazine’s new editor-in-chief, Snapper Carr.

Entertainment Weekly broke the news, describing Snapper as “a headstrong, sharp-witted newsman, hired by Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) … Snapper’s commitment to hard-hitting journalism pushes CatCo reporters to dig deeper in the pursuit of excellence. He’s a man who tells people what he thinks of them, and his no-holds barred approach pushes Kara (Melissa Benoist) in unexpected ways.”

This is all well and good, but it begs the terrifying question: What will become of Cat Grant?

“Supergirl’s” move to The CW was mired with rumors that Calista Flockhart would be taking on a reduced role thanks to the shows relocation in Vancouver.

Neither Flockhart nor The CW have commented on the rumors, and the official word is that she will appear in Season 2 — we just don’t know to what extent.

The fact that she will no longer be Kara’s boss is worrying enough, but now it seems like she’s even being replaced as the “media mogul” for the show too. Flockhart became such a staple of the show in its first season that watching the many adventures of Supergirl without Cat Grant reporting every word of it is devastating.

The sliver lining of this cloud of Cat-shaped doom is that it’s given us a possible spoiler about Kara’s future in Season 2.

After finally getting Kara’s name right in the finale, Cat offered her an ambiguous promotion, but up until now her new title has been left as a big, fat TBD.

Factoring in Catco Magazine’s new editor-in-chief will be Kara’s new boss, it’s safe to assume that she’ll decide to follow in her cousin’s journalistic footsteps and become something of a reporter.

“Supergirl” returns on Monday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT to The CW.
