“Switched at Birth” is going to go big for Season 5 — like Asia big. The final few moments of the Season 4 finale, as Vanessa Marano promised, have Bay (Marano) and Daphne (Katie Leclerc) living in China 10 months after their summer adventure.
The girls decided that rather than deal with their romantic troubles, they want to spend the summer exploring China. Daphne wants to go for her own makeshift hearing aid internship while Bay is going to get inspired for her art and to make up for not going to Los Angeles the year before.
The time jump at the end of the episode has Bay settling in as a tattoo artist and Daphne working at a local health clinic, meaning that both girls made the absolute best of their summer plans. However, Bay gets a disturbing phone call that says everything is not okay back in Kansas City.
There’s a number of things that could have gone wrong while the girls were in China. Eric (Terrell Tilford) could have been found by the police after kidnapping Will again and implicated Regina (Constance Marie). Toby (Lucas Grabeel) and Lily (Rachel Shanten) could have run into complications with their newborn baby son or John (D.W. Moffett) and Kathryn (Lea Thompson) could have run into financial ruin.
Any number of things could have happened but fans will have to wait until 2016 to find out what when “Switched at Birth” returns for Season 5.
