sam underwood mark the following season 2 fox 'The Following' Season 3 premiere reveals who picked Mark up in that car
Coming out of the Season 2 finale of “The Following,” there were a lot of questions to be asked. Is Claire gone forever? Who’s going to make sure Joe Carroll stays behind bars this time? Is Mike going to get in trouble for breaking protocol and killing Lily Gray in cold blood? And, finally and most urgently, who the heck was driving that car that picked up Mark Gray?

For those racking their brains for an answer to that last question, Monday’s (March 2) Season 3 premiere answered it. The driver turns out to be no one fans are familiar with: Andrew Jacobs. Andrew — or the person who goes by the name Andrew — works for Mark by murdering people and then setting them up in pre-planned positions, just like Mark used to do with his brother Luke.

However, the premiere doesn’t explain Andrew’s connection to Mark or the Gray family. In fact, it’s not even revealed until the last 10 minutes of the episode that Andrew — a character who has been a central part of the entire episode — is the man who picked up Mark and saved him from both his mother’s and brother’s fate.

Until his relationship with Mark is explained in more detail, what little fans do know about Andrew is that, as Ryan and Mike would put it, he gets off on crying. That theory is proven when it’s shown that Andrew enjoys going to support groups so he can pick his next target while sobbing in front of a group of strangers. Normal.

Viewers also know that he’s more power-obsessed and organized than his two comrades — lovebirds Daisy and Kyle — who are into murdering people and then having sex in the aftermath of it all. One could say that he also appears to be smarter than Daisy and Kyle, but then again he ends up locked in a jail cell at the end of episode thanks to a Mark-driven mission gone wrong.
Andrew might not be around for long, considering his current situation, but at least everyone now knows who was driving that car.
“The Following” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
