“The Royals” Season 2 will have a new king, as Cyrus (Jake Maskall) was named the new head of the monarchy in the final moments of the show’s Season 1 finale.
It’s taken a whole season of plotting for Cyrus to make his way to the throne — and he’s taken down many to get there. His brother Simon (Vincent Regan) succumbed to his stabbing injuries; the twins, Liam (William Moseley) and Eleanor (Alexandra Park), have been ruled illegitimate heirs to the throne; and the Queen Helena (Elizabeth Hurley) seems to be playing along.
However, Cyrus’ plan to get to the throne didn’t go off without a hitch. Liam and Eleanor know what their uncle has done and have every intention of avenging their father — whether he was biological or not. In fact, Cyrus will be attending his own coronation with a busted face thanks to Liam’s rage when once he found out that Cyrus had the twins’ older brother killed in a plane crash and most likely is King Simon’s murderer.
Liam and Eleanor both showed a great amount of growth in the finale. Liam sent Ophelia (Merritt Patterson) to New York to pursue her dreams, his most unselfish move of the entire season. If he and Eleanor remain focused as a team, they will be powerful enemies for Cyrus in Season 2.
“The Royals” Season 2 will also have to delve deeper into the “Domino” mystery, as Helena rose the mysterious flag at the palace gates after Simon’s death was announced. It turns out all of those secret phone calls are part of a much larger plan, yet to be revealed. Maybe, “Domino” is a secret mission to take down the monarchy all along. Not to mention it’s only a matter of time before Helena finds out that Cyrus had her true love Captain Lacey (Noah Huntley) killed so she wouldn’t be distracted by their plan to take the throne.
With two plotting twins, a conspiring queen and a surprise baby on the way — Cyrus has a lot on his plate and he’s only been king for five minutes. Will he be able to hold onto the crown or will the entire monarchy come down in ruins? You’ll have to wait for Season 2 to find out.
