With the end of "The Vampire Diaries" at hand, it's time to talk about the elephant in the room -- and that's "The Originals."
For most fans, it's a foregone conclusion that at least some "TVD" characters will be making the jump to the spinoff, now that it's coming to a close. After all, there's eight whole seasons of character development to pull from! The stories of Mystic Falls may have ended, but that doesn't mean the people who populate it should, right?
The question is: Who would be a good fit for "The Originals"?
Obviously, Stefan (Paul Wesley) is a no go considering he died in "The Vampire Diaries" finale, and we're comfortable saying the other Salvatore brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) would really serve no purpose moving to the French Quarter now that he's been turned human. Plus, the last thing Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) need is competition in the brooding-vampire-brothers department.
That said, there are a few characters we think could make for perfect transplants...
Obviously Caroline Forbes is at the top of the list, having had an epic (yet brief) romance with Klaus Mikaelson. That letter from Klaus in the finale was all but a promise that Caroline would find her way back into Klaus' arms eventually. Even more importantly, Caroline now runs a school for magical children, which sounds like the perfect place for Hope to learn to control and use her powers. The door for this transplant is wide open, so we'd be disappointed if it never came to fruition.
We know, we know -- Tyler's dead. But seriously, when has that EVER stopped a character from getting some screen time on either "The Vampire Diaries" or "The Originals?"
We loved his happy ever after witch Vicki (Kayla Ewell), but we always thought Tyler's epic feud with Klaus would have made him a good crossover option. If heaven doesn't work out on for him, New Orleans could be a good backup.
This one is a long shot, since Nina Dobrev seems to have left the world of vampires for good. Still, there was something wickedly wonderful about Katherine's combative dynamic with Klaus, and she had a pretty epic romance with Elijah too. If anyone could survive a hellfire implosion, it's Katherine Pierce -- we're pulling for you girl!
Alaric is already headed to "The Originals" in Season 4 for a crossover, so who's to say he won't just settle into New Orleans for good? The witch community there could probably use a satellite school anyways. Plus, the twins are kind of in desperate need of a good witch teacher, and there are quite a few of them in the French Quarter.
"The Vampire Diaries" series finale airs Friday, Mar. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. The 13-episode fourth season of "The Originals" begins the following week in the same timeslot.
