Over the course of eight seasons of “The Vampire Diaries,” pretty much every vampiric character has fallen off the good guy wagon a few times.

Damon (Ian Somerhalder) started off evil and has had minor lapses off and on. Stefan (Paul Wesley) used to be the Ripper of Monterey — and then there were those two no-humanity stints with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Caroline (Candice King) respectively. Even Enzo (Michael Malarkey) has turned to the dark side once or twice at this point.

However, we’ve never seen Damon and Stefan off the rails at the same time, and it’s presenting us with a wickedly wonderful prospect: A no-humanity Defan murder-spree.

Now that the brothers have sworn themselves to Cade (Wolé Parks), they’re both engaging in some good old-fashioned vampire bloodlust, and the most recent sneak peek is as chilling as it is awesome. It definitely feels like an evil Stefan move to show up at a support group and play a “pick the murder victim” game.

The downside to both Salva-bros taking a walk on the dark side is that we’re not sure how they’ll pull themselves out of this mutual spiral.

For eight seasons, “The Vampire Diaries” has made it clear that the real soulmates on the show are Damon and Stefan — and one brother has always been there to pull the other back from the brink time and time again. But now, that doesn’t seem possible. We suppose it’s up to the women in their lives to help them bring back their humanity… But Elena (Nina Dobrev) is still out of commission, Bonnie (Kat Graham) is preoccupied with Enzo — and Caroline should probably focus on keeping her own head above water now that she’s lost both the love of her life and her twin daughters at the same time.

Can anyone actually get the Salvatores back on the wagon?

We’re hoping the blast from the past of the upcoming Miss Mystic Falls pageant episode makes a few cracks in the brothers’ armor. If all else fails, someone will have to tie them up and starve them out — Lexi (Arielle Kebbel) style.

“The Vampire Diaries” returns Friday (Jan. 13) at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
