Season 8 of “The Voice” has found its Top 10 contestants, and, luckily for Christina Aguilera, the pop star has three singers in the running. However, she says there’s someone outside of her team who’s a big threat: Sawyer Fredericks.
“I think [my team has] done consistent, solid performances so far,” says Aguilera at a “Voice” press conference. “But, other than my team — because I’ve got to root for them first — I think Sawyer is definitely a standout.”
The 16-year-old New York native is on Pharrell Williams’ two-person team, and so far, he’s been able to wow the coaches and viewers at home with his Bob Dylan vibe. Considering he made a mistake during his performance of John Lennon’s “Imagine” and is still in the competition, it looks like he’s got America wrapped around his finger.
Regardless of whether Fredericks makes it to the end, he’s made a fan out of Aguilera.
“I’ve been very open about the fact that I’ve been a huge fan of Sawyer since day one,” says Aguilera. “He’s just definitely a frontrunner outside of my team.”
“The Voice” airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
