If there’s one thing “The Voice”s’ Meghan Linsey has going for her it’s that she knows how to channel her emotions better than the rest of the Season 8 contestants.

On Monday’s (May 11) episode, the Team Blake member took to the stage to perform Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One,” which might just be the best song for her to have sung at this point in the competition. She’s done rock, she’s done country and she’s done soul, but she rarely takes on a current song by a popular artist. Overall, it was a nice change of pace for the powerful vocalist.

Add on the fact that she’s an emotional singer and chose a song that’s performed by an equally emotional artist, and it came off as a perfect match. Linsey has often brought up her rocky relationship with her ex-boyfriend and bandmate, and in a song that has lyrics like “You and me, we made a vow/ For better or for worse/ I can’t believe you let me down,” it’s quite possible that she was pulling from her past experiences.

By the end of the song, she had tears in her eyes and the pain she was expressing on stage was easy to feel from the other side of the TV screen.

“The Voice” airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
