FOX has recruited some new FBI agents to assist Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny in their investigations into the paranormal. The network has announced “The Flash’s” Robbie Amell and “Six Feet Under” star Lauren Ambrose have joined “The X-Files” for one episode.
Ambrose’s Agent Einstein is described as “sharp” and “confident,” while Amell’s Agent Miller as “smart” and “smooth,” but no other details have been released.
Anderson and Duchovny are of course reprising their roles of agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder in the six-episode revival of the series. They are joined by returning characters Mitch Pileggi as FBI official Walter Skinner, as well as William B. Davis as the villainous Smoking Man.
The actors’ resemblance to Anderson and Duchovny have prompted many to assume the newbies will be appearing in a flashback, but Variety reports that is not the case; Amell and Ambrose will appear in present day. However E! Online reveals that while Amell and Ambrose were originally supposed to appear in only one episode, their contracts have been revised to include series regular possibilities.
“The X-Files” premieres Sunday, Jan. 24 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
