Most “This Is Us” fans found themselves frustrated at the lack of resolution to the mystery of Jack’s (Milo Ventimiglia) death in Season 1, but we’ve got beef with another hanging storyline: Toby (Chris Sullivan) and Kate’s (Chrissy Metz) wedding!

When Toby asked Kate to marry him out of the blue in the hospital, we were expecting either a cancelled engagement or a rushed wedding by the end of the season. Engagements don’t typically carry over from one season to the next on TV, which is why we were flabbergasted when Toby and Kate’s relationship was put aside for the final arc of the season to focus more on Jack and Rebecca (Mandy Moore).

When push comes to shove though, we’re glad that this wedding has been held for Season 2, since a rushed wedding on TV typically tends to end in a failed marriage. You can’t just sprint down the aisle, you’ve got to take your time!

We spoke to Chrissy Metz and Chris Sullivan to get their opinion on the possible wedding, and so far they’re both of the opinion that the wedding will happen given time.

“Toby’s got to get married to Kate so he can stay on the show, right? Hashtag season 3,” Sullivan jokes. “I think the key to a strong foundation is honesty, and vulnerability in a relationship, so they’re well on their way. They’ve gotten past all the fun, romantic stuff that’s like okay, but there’s no foundational equipment in that stuff. They’ve got to get down to the nitty gritty.”

Chrissy Metz agreed that “This Is Us” would likely deliver on the promised nuptials. “Who doesn’t want to see a really fun wedding between Toby and Kate?” She says. “And a wedding dress! Have we seen a plus-size woman being married on television? I don’t know if we have.”

We’re not sure if Kate will be the first plus-size woman married on the small screen, but we can pretty safely assume she’ll be one of the most anticipated. Given the show’s tendency to lead you in one direction, only to take you down a different path entirely, we might get a wedding march that turns into a funeral march, or even a runaway bride situation. You just can’t ever tell with “This Is Us.”

Whatever the case, we’re pulling for Toby and Kate in Season 2.

“This Is Us” is scheduled to return in the fall of 2017.
