Earlier this year, Trevor Noah shocked everyone when it was revealed that he had a profile on a website, known as “Celebrity Tinder.” The exclusive site showed Jon Stewart’s successor posing as a man in search of woman.

When the story came to light, Noah’s relationship with model Jordyn Taylor had also been called into question. The two had been romantically linked for months, which made Noah’s profile all the more controversial.

Additionally, the outing was rather embarrassing for the TV host. After all, why on Earth would he be on a dating website?

A rep for Noah told The New York Daily News, “Trevor and some of the correspondents signed up for dating apps as part of production research for a comedy bit they are doing for ‘The Daily Show.’”

What seemed as an unbelievable excuse actually gained some merit when “The Daily Show” ran a segment on sexual racism this week. In the story, correspondents Jessica Williams and Ronny Chieng show their research in online dating being more difficult for African-American and Asian users.

Luckily for Noah, he has the ability to do pretty much anything given his recent truthfulness. Making it rain at a strip club? It’s for research. Laying out on a nude beach? It’s for research. Picking up an escort? Okay, we’ll have to see the story first to believe it.

“The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.
