“Twilight Eclipse” star Kristen Stewart is up (twice) in Sunday’s (June 6) MTV Movie Awards Best Kiss category. And she’s also the first female to be nominated for Global Superstar, along with her “Twilight Saga” male costars Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson, Johnny Depp and Daniel Radcliffe.
What’s next? How about a little thing like a Best Actress Academy Award nomination?
A source involved with Stewart’s independent film, “Welcome to the Rileys”, which was well received at the Sundance Film Festival, tells The Dish Rag exclusively there could be a Best Actress Oscar campaign planned for Stewart’s role as a troubled young stripper/hooker.
]]>And her female costar — Melissa Leo — previously nominated for Best Actress for her 2008 role in “Frozen River” may get an O campaign for Best Supporting Actress. “Rileys” was picked up by Bob Berney‘s Apparition at the festival in January, after fans blast Tweeted distributors like Sony Classics and The Weinstein Co begging them to pick up the film. After Apparition snagged it, Sony Worldwide Distribution came in to distribute the film in the US, in exchange for the hefty estimated $7 million cost of P and A (prints and advertising). There was early festival buzz about a Best Supporting nod for Stewart but now that has changed to Best Actress. The film has an impressive pedigree. Along with the Emmy winning Gandolfini, there’s Ridley Scott and his brother Tony, Steve Zallian among the big name producers.
