Zap2it: What’s your thought about “Unforgettable” now lightening things up, especially with the show’s consultants still including frequent comedy star Marilu Henner, who shares the gift of heightened recall with your character?
Poppy Montgomery: I think that with the lighter tone, it’s more the real Marilu Henner direction. She is very proactive and positive and embracing of this gift. She loves it. It’s not the more tortured side of it.
It’s such a new discovery, I don’t think it’s understood entirely, the “why” or “where” it comes from. There are a lot of theories but nothing solid, so much of it is just using your imagination. It’s closely linked to obsessive-compulsive disorder, which is an interesting thing, I think.
Zap2it: Before “Unforgettable,” you had a long run on “Without a Trace.” Are you still in touch with your co-stars from that show?
Poppy Montgomery: I’m still so close to that cast, I miss them every day. That was like getting a divorce for me when that show ended, like losing my family, because we were together all the time for seven years. We sort of grew up together.
Roselyn (Sanchez) got married, I had a baby, I watched Marianne Jean-Baptiste’s daughters grow up … one of them was a newborn when we started, and she was 7 when we were done. Roselyn and I talk all the time, and I’m still very close to Enrique (Murciano) and Anthony (LaPaglia). I think the dynamics among the cast really gave that show a timelessness.
