“Orange Is the New Black” star Uzo Aduba and “Glee’s” Amber Riley are grabbing their broomsticks for “The Wiz Live!” — but don’t worry, they’re both playing nice witches.
Aduba will be Glinda the Good Witch, who ultimately reveals the silver slippers to Dorothy (Shanice Williams) and Riley will play her good witch sister from the North, Addaperle.
“We are so happy to welcome two actors we’ve admired and wanted so much to work with,” say executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. “We look forward to showcasing the amazing musical talents of Amber and we are eager to introduce Uzo’s remarkable singing voice for those who know her solely as an extraordinary dramatic actress.”
While many are most familiar with Aduba from as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on “OITNB,” the actress is started out on Broadway with parts in “Coram Boy” and the revival of “Godspell.” In contrast, Riley’s singing talents are well documented thanks to her six-season stint as Mercedes Jones on “Glee.”
“The Wiz! Live” is set to premiere on Thursday, Dec. 3 on NBC. It co-stars David Alan Grier, Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige.
