Joseph Morgan and Ian Somerhalder for The CW

Fans of “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” have been awaiting another crossover for two years, but the wait will soon be over.

Speaking to the 2016 TCA winter press tour, CW president Mark Pedowitz says that viewers “will see, organically, a crossover this year.”

He adds that it won’t be “the size and scope of what [they] do for ‘Flash’ and ‘Arrow,'” but it will happen.

“It has to make sense,” Pedowitz continues. “If it doesn’t make sense story-wise, don’t do it, don’t force it. The audience can tell.”

Pedowitz also says that the move to Friday nights for the two vampire shows is “not a move to exile,” but a “move to strengthen Friday night.” He adds that he thinks The CW has put out “the best schedule since [he’s] been at The CW.”

“We’re hopeful that [‘The Vampire Diaries’], in the move to Friday, continues what it does do, really great — with ‘The Originals,’ also. They triple their numbers, live +7, consistently. So there’s a lot of delayed viewing on this show, so if it continues and we see the performance we’ve been seeing, hopefully we’re looking at a lot more,” says Pedowitz.
