vinessa shaw michael chiklis vegas cbs 'Vegas' star Michael Chiklis 'explosive' says on screen wife Vinessa ShawIt takes a strong woman — and actress — to stand up to Michael Chiklis’ mobster character on “Vegas.”

Vinessa Shaw has become the woman for the job. After much big-screen work in movies ranging from Disney’s “Hocus Pocus” to Stanley Kubrick’s “Eyes Wide Shut,” she now has her first continuing series role on CBS’ Tuesday series as Laura Savino, wife of a would-be kingpin (Chiklis) of Sin City during its earliest period as a gambling mecca.
“Laura is no small fry, either,” Shaw maintains of working against the ferociousness that “The Shield” Emmy winner Chiklis brings to Vincent Savino. “A lot of things are boiling under the surface with her. She is a woman of decorum; however, she’s very smart and comes from a political background and knows the lifestyle she’s getting into by marrying someone like Vincent.
“She’s written with complexity,” Shaw tells Zap2it, “and because she does have to battle with grace the age of the 1960s when women weren’t as free as they are today, it’s a definite challenge for her. And to balance that is quite an acting challenge, but it’s deliciously fun.”
Shaw is pleased to reteam with “Vegas” executive producers James Mangold and Cathy Konrad, with whom she previously worked on the 2007 remake of the Western movie “3:10 to Yuma.” She’s also happy to have Chiklis as her principal acting partner on the series.
“It’s so much fun,” she says, “because he is so explosive and very present in his acting. [Laura] brings a sense of calm to [Vincent], yet she also brings out her own tendency to be real. And sometimes, it doesn’t look so nice.”
