As Ivar the Boneless (Alex Hogh) comes to terms with the deaths of his parents on “Vikings,” the time has come to prepare for war. Of course, before you can go to war you’ll need an army and for Ivar that means building the Great Heathen Army.
How does a man without the use of his legs lead an army into battle, though? That’s where Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) comes in. In the exclusive “Vikings” clip above, from the Jan. 11 episode, Floki gifts Ivar with the best gift of all: “It’s your legs, Ivar. It’s your wings,” he says proudly, presenting him with a chariot.
The chariot will allow the son of Ragnar to lead his soldiers to war in Wessex as they take vengeance on Ecbert (Linus Roache) for the death of Ragnar (Travis Fimmel). Ivar was previously seen in a trailer for the season riding tall in the chariot — every bit the man and warrior he’s destined to become.
However, in the clip you can’t help but admire the childlike wonderment in Ivar’s eyes as he realizes Loki crafted this method of transportation just for him. “Is it really for me?” he asks, astonished, before breaking into giggles. Meanwhile, Floki looks on with a father’s pride…
Now, with a chariot to carry him, it’s time for the Great Heathen Army to truly come together. Watch out, Ecbert — the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok are coming for you, and they aren’t particularly forgiving.
“Vikings” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on History Chanel.
