miss robbie montgomery tim norman sweetie pies 325 'Welcome to Sweetie Pie's' Season 2 undergoes growing pains

When we left Tim Norman, his mama Miss Robbie Montgomery and their family’s booming restaurant business in June, viewers were still waiting on two big events: Tim’s wedding to his son’s mother, Janae, and the grand opening of the family’s new eatery, Upper Crust.
As “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s” opens its new season Saturday, Sept. 15, on Oprah Winfrey Network, the Upper Crust is a go, leaving Tim solely in charge of Sweetie Pie’s Mangrove location and further stretching the family’s time, emotions and resources. “There is some drama to talk about,” Norman tells Zap2it, chuckling. “Not everyone was prepared for this explosion and this experience, and there are positives and negatives that come along with it. You guys are going to see all of that.”
Still, Norman says, he is grateful for the fresh perspectives the cameras give him as they record his family’s ups and downs, most notably his relationship woes and his battles with Robbie over the disciplining of Norman’s spirited cousin Charles and nephew Andre.
“That’s something that’s just real life, show or no show,” says Norman. “In every family, you have a woman’s view and you have a man’s view on dealing with children. … That’s what’s going on with my mom, is that she thinks I am too stern with them. But I’m just speaking from experience because I know where a 17-year-old boy’s mind is at.”
And, Norman says, he is most proud that “Sweetie Pie’s” — which he likens to a real-life mash-up of “The Cosby Show” and “Cheers” — gives viewers a positive, everyday look at African-American family life. “I’m happy to say that we’re shining a light on regular people living normal lives,” he says, “even though right now it’s an abnormal situation with our business growing the way it is. We’re still just regular people.”
