As a big fan of “Hawaii Five-0,” I have missed Scott Caan and the bantering between his Danny Williams character and that of Alex O’Loughlin’s Steve McGarrett. Why have the showrunners reduced the role?
Apparently because Caan asked them to. Last year he told Rob Owen of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he does five fewer episodes each season than O’Loughlin. Unlike some of the show’s stars and guests who have made themselves at home in Hawaii, Caan continues to live in Los Angeles. And I suspect that number of episodes is kept flexible.
Caan has a daughter born in July 2014 and activities outside “Five-0” including a play he wrote, “The Trouble We Come From,” which was performed in Burbank in 2015. Doing fewer episodes means “I can come home to see my family and stuff.”
